The Prime Minister's speech today - Reasons to be Fearful Part One
The immediate responses to Mr Cameron’s speech on immigration today seem to be concerned with his reference to new laws outlawing forced marriages, increasing the earnings limit for family settlement, and the call on people to report “suspected illegal migrants” to the UK Border Agency through the Crimestoppers phone line.
There’ll be more time to respond to what the prime minister is proposing in more detail over the next couple of days, but here are a couple of comments on the points that leap out at us.
Firstly, there is very little here that counts as new evidence or arguments. The thrust of Cameron’s comments are that migration only makes sense if it is tightly controlled and only those who meet the high standards of the Home Office will be allowed into the country.
The prime minister is excited by the fact that the business sector is failing to take account of the quotas for Tier Two skilled workers allocated for the current year and he views this as evidence that the measures are not, as had been feared, proving damaging to the economy.
What he is less candid about is that in the context of the current car wreck which is the British economy it is very hard to know what proportion of the damage comes from the hammer blows of the financial crisis and how much from reduced access to the labour force skills which are needed to provide public services and growing businesses.
The test of the damage that might be being done by the Points-Based System cap might have to be postponed until we have evidence of a return to economic growth, and there’s a good chance that we will have to wait some time for that. In the meantime we can be reasonably sure that problems are being created in some sectors, such as social care and ethnic restaurant businesses, because their access to the workers they need are being choked off. This will be a theme we will have to return to again in the future.
On the measures being considered to counter forced marriage, we would say that a laudable objective is in danger of being damaged by a crass approach to the issue. We expect that others will provide evidence on this in the coming days, and website like t Southall Black Sisters will no doubt be much visited during that time to see what measures the people who are truly expert on this issue are recommending. They will no doubt be setting the high standard we should expect government to abide by.
Another point that leaps out at us is the suggestion that an after tax income of £20,000 per annum could be regarded as too low to sponsor family members in the future, out of concern that it will lead to an increase in people dependent on public funds.
By my figures a post-tax income of £20k translates into pre-tax wages of £25k. There are 20 million workers in this country who earn less than this amount, compared to 17 million who get more. Seems an awful lot of people who are going to have to learn with the brutal fact that their family lives constitute a burden on public funds.
Migrants of course, being more likely to be concentrated in the lower paid deciles of the wage economy, will be disproportionately affected by any such measure, and this effect can be expected to spill over into impacts on race and ethnicity. This is very worrying – the government should think again.
Finally, there is Mr Cameron's idea that we should be prepared to shop people we suspect are ‘illegal immigrants’. Has it occurred to the prime minister that the average member of the public will have close to zero idea of what being ‘illegal’ actually might amount to? Hands up all those who think that this might turn into a charter for unpleasant busybodies in local communities, stirring up accusations and doing damage on the basis of backward ideas about ethnicity and immigration status.....
That’s it for now.... we will be returning to all these issues and concerns many times in the future....

you can't even bring yourself to support efforts to reduce forced marriage because he is from the wrong end of the political spectrum - shows how principled you are.
Since when have the MRN been concerned about economic growth...only when it can be used to attack measures to control immigration.
Do we want a society where there are witch hunts? What does he mean by illegal immigrants? Agree with Don that average member of public will have little idea of what this means. Dangerous stuff!
I can only imagine how many asylum seekers will be reported as "illegal immigrants" by their neighbors who don't know the difference. I am still baffled as to how any person could be 'illegal'. An act can be called "illegal" but not the person, e.g. someone who drives without a license is driving illegally but is not an "illegal driver".
I wonder if it could be possible to show that the new threshold of maintenance and accommodation requirements would disproportionately affect certain minorities and use the Equality Act to challenge it?
@Derekb
The article says that tackling forced migration is a laudable objective but we have to see what measures will be put in place to implement it. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The government should understand that fighting forced migration is about protecting the rights of innocents women (and men) and not a means of reducing immigration.
@European Citizen
In the last paragraph I think you meant forced marriage and not forced migration. But otherwise I couldn't agree more.
@derekb Some organisations specialising in stopping/protecting women from Forced Marriage have called into question the possible effects of criminalisation, due to the fear that it will merely force FM underground, to avoid 'shopping' family members.
You may find the Race Equality Foundation's briefing on Forced Marriage and mental health of interest: http://www.better-health.org.uk/briefings/forced-marriage-and-mental-health
@ Mark
Yes, I meant "forced marriage". Apologies for the mistake but the speech was really frustrating...
derekb comments about the wrong end of the political spectrum. I am just wondering which end of the political spectrum Cameron May and the other public school multimillionaires are?
They ceratinly do not share the same position in the political spectrum of the average person in the street, or a pensioner, trying to survive while they have pyjamma parties with red haired News Intl executives. Looking at the figures quoted just what part of the political spectrum do they represent? What we are seeing is sheer racist discrimination applied on a blanket basis whereby only a certain section of society will be disadvantaged and the rest advantaged.
So this is the true 'political spectrum' now being offered which is discrimination through financial segregation whereby the haves can and the have nots cannot. Truly democratic I don't think, and total hypocracy of Camerons who attempts to preach democracy while demonstratiing that the Nasty Party is in full flight and copying Hitlers policy of inciting racism and discrimination and trying to create another 'underclass'!
How the wheels of history turn and what hope for the UK if it reverts to 1930s Germany policies.Next we will all be required to scream Heil Mine Fuehrer Cameron!
Britain once the champion of democracy reduced to an island race with island minds. The 'Feral Rich' wanting to rule the roost and damn everyone else!
Words cannot express how sad I am at reading the Prime Ministers words.
Those words are permission to the extremists who promote hatred against cultures outside of the standard "white" world. It gives them pure government ammo to justify their violence and could possibly lead to someone, or someones, dying because of the colour of their skin or their religious choice.
I continue to think about the "what if." What if you were to attempt to enforce the same rules they are considering on the UK populace? How many "real" British citizens would pass the English, money, ties-to-country, right-points, right-whatever test? Fact is, I bet most wouldn't. What should we do? Deport them to Antarctica? I think that's the only place left.
Wherever this government is considering going, it doesn't look like it's going to a better place. Please, let the British people stand up and say we are not going to give into this crazy! This hate!
The speech today horrified me. The Government have already put enough hurdles for married couples to treble the divorce rate. Why are genuine marriages being targeted for the Governments failure to recognise we are in the European Union and yes there is a migrant workforce. I've lived and worked inGreece for years recently returning to the Uk and suffering the consequences of the English language test for spouses ( my husband is Serbian) the failure of system that does not let you resolve entry issues without returning to the home country and the inconsistent approach to the minefield of permanent settlement. Let me tell you this - in my experience the ex- pat population in Greece doesn't speak Greek - can claim Ika if their employment allows and can live in the country without persecution. Free movement of goods, services ad people is key and removing barriers to E U and non - EU individuals can only enhance the skill base in this country. We are in a big wide world and the Government needs to remember this!
What the hell is this country doing? I am married to a Nigerian who is hoping to visit me and my family soon.Who are the government to say who we can marry and from which country, and whether that person be rich or poor? They need to keep their bigoted prejudiced noses out of our business and leave us free to marry who we want,in whatever country and whatever their material state.I married in Nigeria because i knew the stupid govt here would frown on us marrying here in our big brother nanny state. Our MPs are dictators in the worst sense of the word. We all know that African pay is very little compared to the western world. Not only Africa, but many countries. So what are our politicians saying? Can we only marry rich people? Is that what this boils down to? So much for human/equal rights. Our country is supposed to value these principles, but like hell. Action speaks louder than words--yes Mr Racially Prejudiced Cameron--you are a hypocrite and a liar.Anyone voting for you next time round needs carting off to the lunatic asylum.Am so angry
Folks it gets even worse because on another MRN website is an article about refusing migrants with HIV /AIDS medical treatment! Yes leaving migrants with HIV/AIDS without medical treatment. That is totally inhumane and akin to a death setnance for that individual!
It is also a danger to the rest of society if that individual with HIV/AIDS isn't treated properly.
I only know what I read about this subject but I do know leaving a human being without medical treatment for HIV /AIDS is akin to murder! We have a PM and Coalition Govt that is prepared to go to these lengths to implement their racist discriminatory UNLAWFULL policy. Join our petition to the UNITED NATIONS COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS in Geneva and voice you protest that BRITAIN IS NO LONGER A DEMOCRACY and the UK PM is a LIAR!
Anyone thought of the implications for migrant and refugee community organisations? At the risk of giving the powers that be even more stupid ideas. Are we not now just a few steps away from criminalising also those of us who work with/volunteer with people with irregular status, now is seriously the time to make a stand, just a pity we are standing on quick sand.
this just might be a blessing in disguise for campaigners. If the reporting undocumented migrants goes through, it has the real potential to galvanise the bme communities and established migrant communities to step up their activities in questioning immigration legislation, because this one can really cheese off a lot of people with creating suspicion and hostility in communities...
"Hands up all those who think that this might turn into a charter for unpleasant busybodies in local communities, stirring up accusations and doing damage on the basis of backward ideas about ethnicity and immigration status..."
Both my hands are up... By stirring murky waters, it is the governing class itself who feed the hate in the street, at the workplace, at home even...
Folks some of us are petitioning the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva Switzerland in regard to the breach of Human Rights for families and immigrants by the Home Secretary for introducing English tests for Spouses not required under ECHR Arictle 8 and breaches of the UK 1976 Race Relations Act and the 1971 Immigration Act.
FOUR JUDGES IN THREE CASES HAVE RULED THAT WHAT HOME SEC T MAY has done is UNLAWFULL ! They have criticised T May personally.
Join this petition to the UNCHR in Geneva Switzerland add your voice to the protest that Britain isn't democratis as Cameron claims it is sinking into a dictatorial state where Ministers freely break the Law at their own will!
A cover letter can be seen on the RIGHTSANDWRONGS UK website - ADD YOUR PROTEST!
Allan: "Our MPs are dictators in the worst sense of the word."
Perhaps some perspective is required. We only need to look at Syria to see an example of a real dictatorship with shocking consequences for the people.
Angela you are absolutely correct. I worked in Arabia and have seen some of it. Thats what scares me about the UK because British freedoms are being erroded by a self interested political elite. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Britain should beware!
It is time an immigrant speaks for other immigrants in the face of the recent political rhetoric from the PM and his team.
I am a legal immigrant and I have been in the UK since 2004 on very legal grounds.
I have watched and listened with dismay how the political rhetoric of David Cameron and his team on immigration is leading to a socially and racially fragmented British society. How sad?
-Immigration issues is now the new proxy for race.
-Human rights scrap is another new tool in the hands of these thoughtless politicians to get rid of immigrants of colour and accent.
- On the foundation of this new found political rhetoric, the internet comments after most very serious news is filled with hate and racist comments.
It is sad to feel so unwelcome here in Britain after all the deception from the smooth talking university salesmen who came to Africa to tell us how good the British universities are and the work experience after studies.
I am a teacher here in the UK and even the kids I teach are now so unwelcoming because they think I am possibly 'the immigrant' who has taken their parents jobs.
The society is becoming racially fragmented as IMMIGRATION IS NOW THE NEW PROXY FOR RACE!
Please fix this!
Anthony and all. In todays Daily Mail is an article about Cameron's proposals in regards to Spouse / Family visas. I am surprised at the large number of people who have posted their experience of the English language tests in which they say the tests are bogus. They aren't relevant, they are tricky, that British people cannot pass the tests, they are expensive to take and are really just a con trick in order to make applicants fail and spend money taking the test. In effect the new English language tests are a fake. Which some of us realised a long time ago.
The tests are also UNLAWFULL and have been ruled so by four British Judges.
But it has now emerged that the Home Office / UKBA no longer states a visa is being refused on the grounds that the test has been failed as reason to refuse an applicant a visa!
ECHR Article 8 has causes for refusing a visa. Passing a language test is not a valid reason for refusing a visa under ECHR Article 8. Therefore to refuse a visa on the grounds of the English test the Home Office is in fact acknowledging their decision is in breach of Article 8.
Now many of us, myself included, have a copy of a letter from the Home Office where it states the reason for denying a visa is because of the English language test.
We will send copies of that HOME OFFICE LETTER to the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva as evidence how PM Cameron, Home Sec May, the UK Coalition Govt are infact breaking UK / EU Law with these UNLAWFULL tests. We want the UNCHR to see just what a hypocrite PM Cameron and the Coalition Govt are and how they detroy British democracy and incite racism! JOIN OUR PETITION to UNCHR please!
Indeed, I was shocked at the call to "shop the illegal migrants". Firstly, the international community does not use the term "illegal migrant" anymore, but instead "irregular migrant". But most importantly, what a dangerous and short-sighted jesture in stirring up racist and extremist outbursts. Is it indeed in line with the principles of a tolerant and democratic society??
He has just proven what I now believe the society in the UK is. It is a self preservation society. What he has yet to understand that by stiring up racial hatred in this country he arms the other parties and boost their following. Unfortunatley it is his mentality that worries me as he reminds me of a baby who when he does not get his way throws his toys out of the pram. What he is saying just shows us that he really does not have any idea about society in the UK. We are a multi racial society and yet a PM that does not understand this or want to. He is making wild political statements which at the end of the day will be his down fall. He raises the point that family life is very important and should be promoted in this parliament. Yet he fails in all the things he states and like the rest of the coalition plays up to what they think the electorate wants to hear. Not the plain facts and truth but hey we are a stupid people as we just get suckerd into this every time at elections. I never trust anyone who is in politics such as MP's and party leaders. There should be a new party called the truthfull and honest party which sticks to the honesty and integrety of people. An Ideal world perhaps but politicians should clean up their act as in any other profession you would be out of your job.
These comments are strong and mind boggling. It is refereshing to know that there are still sensible well meaning people in this country.Anyone outside of UK listening to the "Minority bashing of the extreme wing of British politicians will have a very low opinion of them.
We even have politicians insulting the experienced and well meaning High Court Judges for not pandering to racist and devisive ideology.
My children are of mixed heritage and I fear for their future .
It is very disheartening to see that a main stream political party can come out with such racist and socialy devisive speeches just to gain a few votes from sick racist extremist.
GOD SAVE US. The minorities in this country are in danger.
Much of what is printed in the press that is discriminatory and racist is in certain newspapers. Don Flynn wrote an article on this which was printed in the Guardian. DF named 3 newspapers.
Note the evidence that has just been presented by the Editor of the Dail Mail Mr Paul Dacre to the Leveson enquiry. Mr Dacre pleads against any form of regulation of the press.
Mr Dacre wants to retain the PCC - which was set up BY THE PRESS FOR THE PRESS!
Note the reporting in the Daily Mail of the case in the Supreme Court that had five Judges.
The Daily Mail headlined the one Judge who ruled 'Against' and only mentioned the four Judges who ruled 'For' in smaller print half way thro the article. The Daily Mail has an anti Immigration agenda and promotes this strenuously to the extend of not publishing posts that disagrees with its point of view. Who owns the Daily Mail it is another NEWS BARON!
Only the Independent and the Guardian print information that is fair unbiased and nor racist.
It is important to have a free press. But is the press 'free' that is controlled by Press Barons?
I must agree with many of the posts here.
Who the hell is Cameron and his party. as a supposedly free British man, I can't even bring my Chinese wife into the UK. It seems not even to visit my Mother who will soon be dead.
we have been married 2 years, one of those years spent apart. now I have returned to be with my wife in her Country. what a way to live.
My wife is not interested in settling in the UK, we only want to visit, but even that is almost impossible.
There are very dark times ahead ,Cameron is acting just like Hitler. now he expects people to report illegal Immigrants. let the witch hunt begin. we could well see many innocent Immigrants suffer racist discrimination on a much higher scale than we have seen, all because of Cameron's crazy policies .
British democracy and freedom are almost dead. soon the UK could look more like north Korea , or some other isolated country.
it's very alarming ,reading Dons post here. 20.000 a year to support you and your spouse. even the most stupid person can clearly see that what Cameron is doing is simply making it all but impossible for genuine people to be able to live together in the UK.
while I agree that Immigration needs to be controlled, spouses from both the European and none European should have the same rights. perhaps we should ask Cameron whom we should marry and from what country.
we could very well be seeing a return to the 1930's where it was persecution of the Jews, and now persecution of Immigrants from outside the European Union.
Cameron will cause untold misery while he and Clegg reside in office.
and I doubt the liberal democrats will be trusted again after their dirty dealing .
I hope the courts will eventually scrap this diabolical English test and everything else that denies people in a genuine relationship the right to live together as free men and women as a family unit.
if the British people lose their human rights, then we will see a new dawning that I doubt will be very nice.
we can learn much from history, or ignore and pay the price.
Allan.
As long as there are people prepared to pay and take this silly new English test, then the present coalition dictatorship will continue to win.
people need to fight for their rights, not just simply give in the the ever increasing demands being set out by fools with no brains.
it's about time the European courts stepped in and put Cameron in his place.
there is nothing wrong with human rights if they are implemented in the correct way. but what Cameron and May are doing is totally unlawful and breaches, violates the human rights of many people. they are simply forging ahead with their diabolical plans to erode and destroy our freedom and democracy.
God help us if they succeed in their evil plans.
it's very worrying to see what is happening in the UK now.
I firmly believe that what Cameron is doing to the immigration structure and other issues will eventually cause huge repercussions.
Hitler brought the German people out of depression after the first world war, then took the nation to oblivion. Cameron is also capable of doing great harm to Britain.
one only has to look at the track record of his party since it came into office.
Immigration has been more or less on top of the list. and it smells of something even more sinister.
so what threat is there if two genuine people wish to marry and live together.
but that's not the case any longer is it. we now see nothing more than persecution of those of us who want to live as a free family unit being penalised because Cameron and his clan look on people from certain countries as UNDESIRABLES.
The answer is to make life as bloody hard as possible for these same people to live as free men and women. Hence the introduction of the silly new English test. and possibly an history test, God only knows what else is likely to follow. anything is possible when some people hold the reins of power. and we all know too well, that power often corrupts and goes to some peoples heads.
A new dark age has already began in the UK.
Hi all we have examples reported in todays press where Govt UKBA officials have acted in a manner failing to protect UK borders and endangering the UKs security.
The Head of the UKBA issued instructions NOT to check the passports of persons entering the UK. A head of UKBA on £135,000 pa and with £15,000 bonus fails in his job!
Also an Entry Clearance Officer has accepterd bribes to provide illegal clearance for persons to enter the UK!
The Home Affairs Select Committtee Chaired by Keith Vaz MP found the UKBA 'not fit for purpose!' The Select Committee also said all Bonuses should be stopped!
This was also John Reids comment about the UKBA when he was Home Secretary!
Obviously the Immigration Minister D Green and the Home Secretary Theresa May are both not up to the job of running the UKBA effectively.
They have both allowed serious breaches of security by the UKBA during their period in office.
They cannot plead this is down to the previous Govt because they have had ample time to correct any anonmalies left from the previous Govts time in office. They should both GO!
What more can one say...
A government without any real plans for growth and economic recovery using immigration as index for success.
- All Cameron is doing with his coalition team is to use immigration sentiments to show that he is working.
- This goes to show that the only frontiers holding UK citizens together are immigration issues. Schools are falling apart; kids are so disrespectful, etc. Yet the only agenda is IMMIGRATION. The way he talks, you might think that there are no British citizens working and living in other countries. However, when the unrest started in Libya, the move to rescue British nationals was evidence that Brits also migrate. It is not only an African or Asian thing to migrate.
- Even the untrained, uneducated, and most stupid member of this society has an opinion and solution for immigration
What a shame!
Hi Anthony the evidence is that even Camerons 'immigration' policy is inappropraite and misdirected and ineffective. Respectable self sufficient British nationals are being unlawfully discriminated by the Home Secretary's policy's while criminals terrorists and torturers are being allowed access and residence in the UK.
Anonymous correctly pointed out that racism was used by Hitler to create a society that led to mass extemination and ultimately the demise of his 1,000 year Reich.
The populat press in the UK misreports and incites racism for circulation with no regard to the fact that the UK is only a part of the global economic world and cannot survive in glorious isolation.
Cameron panders to and diverts attention away from the UK economic reality which may yet come to bite him politically and jeopardise the countries future prosperlty.
Britain may be an island but in todays global world, like it or not, the UK cannot afford to foster island minds!
Thank you, Geronimo. It is reassuring to read your sensible comments here. The worst hit immigrants by Cameron’s rhetoric and the feral media racist/ immigration sentiments are immigrants of colour and accent. For these immigrants, their jobs are so insecure and when they lose one, it is so hard to get another.
I recently met an African (an accountant) in my neighbourhood who lost a job with the council and refused to sign up for any allowance at job centre because of his integrity, pride and identity. In his words, “Cameron and Theresa May will say that I came to England to get benefit”. He instead got a job as a cleaner at the city centre to earn a living while he hunts for another job in line with his fantastic educational qualification and wealth of experience as an SAP professional with the county council for so many years.
To Geronimo & Anthony,
Well said,
I fear for the goodwill and future of this country the way such blatant RACISM by UKBA and the gutter tabloid is being accepted and tolerated by the government.
It has now become fashionable to identify and stigmatise British Residents born outside UK.
Iam not talking of "illegal immigrants" I mean BRITISH RESIDENTS OF COLOUR.
Well, Hitler started somewhere.UKBA is now the "black shirts".
Just like the Jews were blamed for the economic problems of Germany , non British are being blamed for the recession.
Let us remenber that these people have no political power , they are not in government, they have no say in thr running of the banks, they do not run thr arms industry, they have no say in economic policy a vast majority of them work and pay tax that keep a lot of unemployable British citizens on benefit.Yet , alas they are "responsible" for the recession.
YOU SIMPLY CANNOT MAKE THIS UP!
Hi folks the new regulations intoduced by Home Secretary T May on 29 Nov 2010 have been challenged in Court four times to date where the UK Judges, eight in number, have found against the Home Secretary as being UNLAWFULL and criticised her for
trying to 'side step' Parliamentary scrutiny! I.e. not seeking Parliamentary consent for her new regulations.
The last case to be heard was at the Supreme Court where four Judges out of five found against the Home Secretary.
An earlier case, Mrs Chapti, who wants to bring her husband to the UK was heard in July 2011.
We understood a result would be announced in October 2011 but it has not been announced to date. We are still waiting
It seems the UK Judiciary will find with the Articles of the European Convention on Human Rights.
But the UK Coalition Govt Executive i.e. the Home Secretary, supported by the PM, fails to comply with UK judicial ruling.
But instead continues to implement UNLAWFULL regulations!
The UK's PM Cameron expouse's Britains democracy to the world but HE is in effect ignoring British democratic principles and is inflcting UNLAWFULL regulations on British citizens!
How do I know? I am a born and bred British citizen with a non EU who has been refused a visa! I am incesnsed at how a supposedly democratic British Govt can be so hypocritical!
Only one politician, Lord Derry Irvine, has had the courage to stand up in the House of Lords and state in open debate that this Coalition Govt has TRASHED Human Rights in the UK!
For your information some of us are going to petition the UNITED NATIONS COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS in Geneva where we will provide evidence just what this UK Coalition Govt is in fact doing by TRASHING BRITSH HUMAN RIGHTS.
I am appalled to find that UKBA refused my Nigerian husband a simple visiting visa for the following reason--he has NO CHILDREN back home in Nigeria! Where in the rules does it say a foreign spouse has to have children in their homeland?? I have involved my local MP in this matter, who is decent enough to be looking into it. What right have our government got to keep families apart like this? It is just SO against the Human Rights Act that our country is supposed to value so much. My God,he only wanted to visit to meet my family, like i met his in the summer.I despair of this dictator government of ours. We let in terrorists and refuse to deport foreign criminals(due to that Human Rights Act!), yet keep out our visiting spouses. No wonder so many Brits emigrate these days.Looks like i will end up living in Nigeria, where i must say i was welcomed with open arms.
"is just SO against the Human Rights Act that our country is supposed to value so much"
A few years ago, during the discussions on the European Constitution, all EU countries agreed on making the European Charter of Human Rights legally binding, with the exception of... the UK (and Poland).
At around the same time, the UK courts ruled that the Chagossian population -violently deported by British forces from the island of Diego García in the 70s in order to rent it out, free of charge, to the US navy- were entitled to resettle in their homeland. The House of Lords overturned the decision.
The UK human rights record was already spectacularly low under the Labour government... now it's even worse.
Ah, and the recent cherry on the cake... Cameron declaring, in all pomp during the commonwealth-fest, that he looks to revive the 'British Empire Medal'. And instead of opening doors towards a transition from monarchy to republic, the government simply decides to tinker around with the present laws governing monarchical inheritance. I find this extremely insulting to the indigenous and non-indigenous populations of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Papua New Guinea, a long list of lands and islands on both sides of the antipodes... and of course, to the UK population itself, born-and-bred-Brit or otherwise.
What Cameron is doing is damaging relations with the UK and other None EU countries. how would he feel if these other countries started to introduce Language tests. how many Brits would that affect. how many British are living abroad and don't even speak the local language.
Lord Derry Irvine has more balls than Cameron, just a pity there were not more people like him. the government has recently been dealt a few blows with court cases it has lost, yet it stubbornly persists to cling on to it's unlawful activities of denying many British people the right to normal family life together in the UK. very high visa prices, and all the other cruel barbaric obstacles they continue to use as barriers to deter us from choosing anyone who is to them undesirable if they are not from some part of the European union.
Cameron, May, and Damien Green all seem to have just one agenda, and that is Immigration. they care not how they tackle this.
lets face it, what's wrong with a British person wanting to bring their spouse to the UK to live.
we all know quite well that we are not allowed public funds, that's understandable and I can go with that. but now there is this talk of upping the amount that people would need to live on. that is those of us who wish to bring our spouse into the UK.
Well I'm afraid Mr Cameron your talking CRAP. if that's the case then perhaps you should start making plans to give all those on benefits in the UK a raise too. it is stated, and I have already mentioned this. the UK Law stipulates that those on Benefits must have a certain amount of money, that is benefits to live on. so why are you aiming to increase the amount of money for those of us who want to bring our partner to the UK.
We are now seeing a situation in the UK where, if Joe bloggs is on benefits
he and his family by law must be allowed a certain amount to live on, that is the law.
on the other hand, a British person who wishes to bring home their partner to settle in the UK, might very soon find that they will need to show that their annual earnings after Tax would probably need to be 20'000 pounds a year or above to satisfy the present coalition party to show that they have enough to support ourselves. so if that is the case, then those on benefits are not receiving enough money to sustain themselves either.
I really can't see the sense or logic in this.
how much do two people actually need to live on per annum.
I'm quite sure if two people were getting 20.000 a year in benefits then they would think they were in Gods pocket.
Cameron and May have obviously rushed into the Immigration issue like two bulls at the gate, it was not even thought out properly, and now it has backfired on them. even now after a number of over rulings from the high courts and an outcry from thousands of people, they continue to discriminate and violate the human rights of it's very own people and their family members. it has all the clear hallmarks of a dictatorship with no values, scruples or anything else for that matter.
what we have is an utter disgrace, injustice, and insult to the British people and politics.
I have just been reading more of the posts here and it pleases me to see more people sharing their feelings here. let us hope that more will join the fight of injustice that we are seeing.
I hope that people here will spread this news, pass on the link of this site and others.
we must never let the likes of Adolf Cameron erode and destroy our human rights.
there is nothing wrong with human rights, if they are implemented in the right way. but he is hell bent on destroying our rights and freedoms.
how can you trust the integrity of people who themselves lie and deceive.
the 1930's through to 1945, we saw persecution of the Jews . we are now seeing persecution, discrimination and racism by a so called government, of those from none European countries. Cameron is behaving like some demented fool , who appears to be colour prejudice and with one sided Immigration policies that will do more harm than good for the UK.
