Runnymede Jim Rose Lecture 2012: David Lammy on Tottenham: race, riots and the future
The Runnymede Trust invites you to join it for the Jim Rose Lecture 2012, an evening devoted to the work and memory of Jim Rose, co-founder of the Runnymede Trust.
The riots which raged across England in the summer of 2011 were sparked by events in Tottenham, North London,also the site of the Broadwater Farm riots in 1985.
David Lammy, MP for the constituency, will reflect on the causes of the tragic events and what role racial inequality has played in these riots separated by a generation. He will also consider what the future holds for Tottenham and for race relations in the UK.
David Lammy is the author of a recently published a book on the riots, Out of the Ashes, which draws on his experience of growing up in Tottenham and explores some of the human stories behind the headlines.
This event is organised in partnership with the LSE Department of Sociology. This event is free and open to all with no ticket required. Entry is on a first come, first served basis and the lecture will start promptly at 6:30 pm. Please ensure you arrive in plenty of time to avoid disappointment.
