Migrant Gateway® is holding a national 
conference ‘Migrants into the Mainstream’ on 
Wednesday, June 25, in the Millennium Suite at 
Newmarket Racecourse (10.00hrs-15.30hrs). 


It will be chaired by 
Sheila Childerhouse, 
chair NHS Norfolk, 
and chair of the 
Migrant Worker 
Steering Group for 
the Eastern Region. 

High-profile 

speakers from 
political/economic and skills/education sectors will set 
the context. They include Danny Sriskandarajah, 
director of research strategy and head of migration, 
equalities & citizenship, 
Institute for Public Policy 
Research. Danny discusses 
the UK’s needs over the next 
five years and asks: ‘How 
do we enable the UK and 
employers to gain from new 
mobility? Isn’t it time we 
started competing with other 
EU states to attract mobile 
workers?’ 


Employers and migrant workers will discuss issues 
they have encountered. 

Details will be given of a new programme that will 
enable migrant workers to transfer their skills and 
qualifications to match employers’ needs. 

Service providers will give a taster of their products 
and services for employers and public sector 
practitioners at ‘dip-in, dip-out’ workshops. 

Migrant Gateway’s ‘Shuttle’, transported to employers’ 
premises for pre-ESOL and ESOL training, will be 
open to view. 

Contributors to a new 
Migrant Gateway 
book A Better Life will 
talk about their 
experiences at the 
book’s launch. 

And Ghazal Asif, a 
competitor on BBC1’s 
The Apprentice, will 
tell her inspiring 
personal story of how 
she found business 
success in the UK as 
the second 
generation of a 
migrant family.
