Migration Institute, University of Oxford
The IMI works to a research agenda that addresses questions around
three inter-related themes: 1) Lives in transit exploring
the experience of migration at the level of individuals, households
and communities; 2) Migration transitions analysing changing
patterns of migration across and to and from continents; 3) Migration
and transformation analysing the interaction between migration
and social, economic and political transformation at the national,
regional and global levels. The initial focus of the IMI's work
is on migration processes relating to the African continent.
Refugee
Studies Centre, University of Oxford
The RSC is a multidisciplinary centre for research and teaching
on the causes and consequences of forced migration. Research at
the RSC is currently organised around three broad areas of investigation:
1) Forced migration, global economy and governance; 2) The experience
and management of displacement; 3) Institutional and normative responses
to forced migration.
Sussex
Centre for Migration Research, University of Sussex
The SCMR is a multi-disciplinary research centre that focuses on
the various aspects of migration. Recent projects have included
the impact of 'brain drain' on developing countries to analyses
of migrant workers in specific industries such as agriculture and
food processing, as well as investigations of recent patterns of
immigration to various EU countries. The SCMR has a DFID-funded
centre on Migration,Globalisation and Poverty and other externally-funded
research projects, such as the EU Network of Excellence on 'International
Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion in Europe' (IMISCOE).
Institute
for Race Relations, London
The IRR is an independent anti-racist think-tank and conducts research
and analyses into pressing issues of contemporary British racism.
These investigations have covered the impact of asylum and immigration
policies and the integration debate. The IRR is carrying out a research
project on 'managed migration' policies in Europe, which are being
adopted in response to increased refugee movement, aging populations
and declining birth rates. The IRR's research focuses on both the
political underpinnings of 'global migration management' and the
policy's impact on refugee protection internationally.

London
The CSM is an inter-disciplinary research centre that focuses on
the movements of people locally, nationally and internationally.
Research into migration has included the history of immigration
in London, a comparative study of Eastern European immigrants in
England and Cape Town, the health of refugees and patterns of European
migration.
TheRefugee
Council, Research Unit, London
The Refugee Council carries out research on a number of policy topics
that form the basis of their policy position papers and undertakes
research that seeks to improve policy and provision for asylum seekers
and refugees. The Research Unit has carried out work on the impact
of anti-terrorism measures, refugees' experiences of integration
and research into older refugees in the UK.
Information
Centre about Asylum and Refugees, London
ICAR undertake primary research, develop information sources and
teach on UK asylum and global refugee issues. By identifying information
gaps, ICAR have developed projects to provide up-to-date and accurate
information and detailed analyses on asylum and refugee statistics
as well as comprehensive navigation guides on key issues and refugee
populations. Their research work has included projects on patterns
of refugee settlement and public attitudes towards asylum seekers.
ICAR have also developed interactive forums for discussing topics
such as the rights and responsibilities of refugees.

IPPR is an independent think tank, at the forefront of progressive,
evidence based research and analysis. Through the Migration, Equalities
and Citizenship team, IPPR have worked on issues of asylum, migration,
integration, race equality and citizenship. Their reserach covers

Centre
on Migration Policy and Society (COMPAS), University of Oxford
COMPAS aims to provide a strategic approach to understanding contemporary
and future migration dynamics across sending and receiving contexts
in the EU and the UK. Their research programme covers: > Development
and migration > European context > Governance and ethics >
Health and migration > Irregular migration > Integration >
Mixed migration > The labour market and migration > Transnationalism
and Diaspora. Previous research work has included the socio-economic
impact of EU accession on low wage workers; the political and civic
engagements of Latin American immigrants in thne UK; and comparative
analyses on integration and identity.

for Research and Analysis of Migration (CReAM),University College
London
CReAM is an independent and interdisciplinary research centre, conducting
both empirical and theoretical research. Although emphasis is on
quantitative research, CReAM explore and use interdisciplinary approaches
to analysing migration processes. CReAM's research focuses on the
causes, patterns, and consequences of international population mobility
and movements affecting the UK and Europe and on associated global
processes. Recent research includes modelling return migration;
the impact of immigration on local labour markets; employment dynamics
among migrants and local workers; and racial and economic factors
in attitudes to immigration.

Research Unit, University College London
The MRU carries out research to contribute to knowledge on patterns
and trends in migration and to increase understanding of the interrelationships
between public policy and patterns of migration at various levels.
Recent research has looked at highly skilled migrants and the movement
of expertise; migrant trafficking and human smuggling; types of
international migration and their impacts; and trends in European
International migration.

for Research on Nationalism, Ethnicity and Multiculturalism (CRONEM),
Univerity of Surrey
CRONEM is a multi-disciplinary research centre in the field of nationalism,
ethnicity and multiculturalism. CRONEM are engaged in issues which
lie at the nexus between nation, ethnicity, multiculturalism, citizenship
and migration. Previous research work has included a study of Polish
migrant workers in London.
European
Centre for Migration and Social Care, University of Kent
The Centre focuses on an expanding range of research and teaching
activity in the fields of social care, health and mental health
policies and practices and their impact on migrants and refugees.
Areas of recent research includes: Identifying good practice in
mental health and social care provisions for asylum seekers and
refugees; a longitudinal study of immigrant children and social
care needs of migrants.
Policy
Network, London
Policy Network is an international think-tank dedicated to working
towards developing and promoting a progressive agenda. As a part
of this agenda, the network launched a new research initiative on
immigration with a pamphlet that sought to renew the debate amongst
the European centre-left on issues of immigration and integration
Development
and Forced Migration Unit, Oxford Brookes University
DFM is a research and teaching cluster focused on forced migration,
refugees and asylum seekers and also urbanisation and urban change
in the developing world. Recent work on forced migration has included
analyses of EU and UK refugee and asylum policies and practices;
a social capital analysis of refugee community organisations and
analyses of practices for the reception of asylum seekers.

for Research in Ethnic Relations, University of Warwick
The CRER is an academic centre for the research and teaching of
race, migration and ethnic relations. The CRER research programme
has traditionally focused on research into ethnic relations and
racial discrimination in Britain, but in recent years it has expanded
to focus on the processes of racial discrimination, issues of citizenship,
political participation, cultural identity, refugees, ethnic mobilisation
and nationalism. CRER is currently pursuing its research themes
through a number of diverse projects which include a studies of
European asylum policies and statistics; the housing demands and
associated needs of newcomer communities; and a comparative analysis
of employment strategies towards migrants and ethnic minorities.

Policy Research Centre, Middlesex University
The centre promotes interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research
into emerging areas of social policy, including migration, refugees
and citizenship. Recent research projects have investigated gender
and migration; comparative European migration, in relation to family,
skilled migration and citizenship rights; refugee integration and
settlement; new migration in London; diversity, multiculturalism
and citizenship.
